The Best of The Week Round-up

If you've found this post as part of the Business Blogging Challenge, you'll notice that you've got 10 great posts under your belt, and you want to maximise people see these. Great news! There's a technique called a round-up that will help you showcase the last 10 days of content!

However, please note there are several types of round-up posts. There's this one which I've called Best of the Week. There are also expert round-ups, which is where a group of experts give a tip or technique and themed round-ups, which work in a similar way to curated posts.

Best of the Week Round-Up Post

Imagine this post as your blog's greatest hits compilation! It's a curated set of articles, tools, resources, or links you gather under one umbrella for your readers' convenience. Plus, there's a downloadable content roadmap waiting for you at the end of this post.

A round-up post serves a triple purpose:

  1. It shines a spotlight on your older content.
  2. It simplifies content understanding for your audience.
  3. It assists search engines in indexing your site comprehensively.

If you're a habitual blogger, why not showcase a "Best of" post at least once a month? If you've joined the Business Blogging Challenge, I suggest doing this every week.

Now, let's walk through the process:

Step 1: Start by selecting a theme and a time frame for your round-up post. Consider a title like "The Best of [YourSite] February" for a monthly round-up. For a themed round-up, something like "Business Blogging Challenge Best Infographics Round-Up" might work. You'll see I don't mention a time frame when focusing on a theme. However, you've just got a week's worth of content, so you can go with the "Best of the Week".

Step 2: Start gathering your links. For example, I published 9 posts in February. Can I spot a theme? Not particularly. So, it seems I'm hurtling towards a "Business Blogging Challenge: Best of February" round-up.

Step 3: Next, decide how to sequence your links. Will they be in publishing order, visitor count, or number of shares? The choice is yours, but make sure to have a clear idea before you write your catchy headline and engaging introductory paragraph. For my February round-up, I'm opting for a reverse date order. Adjust and arrange your list accordingly.

Step 4: Once your links are organized, it's time to present the idea to your audience. Begin with an engaging paragraph and then clarify what these links are and their arrangement.

Step 5: Now, personally introduce each link. Each one deserves a brief introduction to pique your reader's interest and explain why they should click.

For instance: First up on my February gems is my SEO checklist. This post guides you on how to optimize your content for on-page SEO, and it even includes a shareable SEO Checklist!

Remember, a naked list of links won't do. Give each link a brief context to make it more appealing and shareable.

Step 6: Ensure that all the links in your round-up post open in a new window. This helps keep your reader on your site for longer.

Step 7: You're almost there! Now, add your call to action. Encourage your readers to share the round-up post or subscribe to an email list to receive these round-ups regularly. Don't forget to add an eye-catching image, and consider creating a branded template in Canva to maintain consistency across your posts.

Bonus Tips: After you've created a few round-up posts, consider branching out to expert interview round-ups or tool-specific round-ups. This could help raise your reputation among your audience.

Creating a round-up post typically takes about 20 minutes and can be easily delegated to your VA.

So, are you ready to give your site's visibility a boost with your first round-up post? Let's get started!

When you've created your round-up remember to publish it, and share it in the Blogging Challenge Facebook Group
